Design Summary (Draft 1)-Sea bin
According to Seabin Using Plastic To Fight Plastics Project (2019), microplastics and
microfibres are now
considered one of the greatest threats to the marine environment to
the marine ecosystem as they collect organic pollutants faster than inorganic
particles and marine animals accidentally ingest them. This problem is so acute that the United
Nation (UN) is calling for actions to be taken.
It also mentions
that Seabin technology captures all surrounding debris and also removes
considerable amounts of microplastics 2mm and greater, preventing the particles
from breaking down into smaller pieces in the water.
The article
states that the Seabin method is cheaper and more time-efficient compared to
the manta trawl method. It is able to function on its own at specific areas
using suction and runs 24hr. Compared to the manta trawl it has to be done
by driving the motorboat around different areas and dragging it to collect the
debris.
The Seabin project joins current global efforts to reduce microplastic and microfiber
loads in the ocean. More research and development are carried out so that the
Seabin will be able to remove even smaller particles of microplastics in the
near future.
Yong Xun here.
ReplyDeleteSome suggestions:
1) elaborate more on the functionality of the technology behind the Seabins,
2) more description of the filter used to filter out the microplastics.
Thanks Yong Xun reading my article,
DeleteI have change some of the part you mention it and input the functionality and some description in it hope you can read it again
cheers,
